Yeah, I don't know if people really 'get' who we are? I think they see us as some kind of Ghostbusters-y "We'll investigate your paranormal encounters" deal. Granted, a lot of that's probably just trolls. Maybe we're not the best at advertising our actual function?
It's not all bad. Well, depends how you look at it. Sometimes we get submissions that contain interesting information that the authorities need. Here's an example, this blog is pretty clearly some actual kid's personal thing, and the stuff described can be looked up: All the people mentioned are real, that killer is still on the run, everything can be verified. In these events, we send the blogs to the police. So that's nice, to get to fulfil a public service.
